Scientists are using Covid vaccination technology to mend injured hearts, which could pave the road for a heart attack cure.
King’s College London researchers have discovered genetic codes that produce specific proteins that stimulate the body to produce healthy cardiac cells.
According to the Daily Star, the healthy cells can be sent to the heart muscle using the same technique used in the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
The technology, which has been dubbed “blockbuster medicine,” might be tested on humans in the next two years. Every year, over 100,000 people in the United Kingdom are hospitalized to hospitals after suffering a heart attack.
Heart attack victims are frequently left with a scar that can develop into heart failure because the heart has no ability to repair itself; nevertheless, the novel therapy has the potential to alter cardiovascular care and prevent heart failure in victims.
“We are all born with a set amount of muscle cells in our heart, and they are exactly the same ones we will die with,” said Professor Mauro Giacca, who is directing the study.
