Physically active individuals are less likely to experience the severity of COVID-19

Physically active individuals are less likely to experience the severity of COVID-19.

While this is known that regular exercise can keep many health issues such as obesity, blood pressure, and diabetes, it can also keep the severity of COVID-19 at bay. The recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine was conducted in 2018 and 2019, from which 50,000 participants were diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2020.

The study created three groups based on time spent on exercising per week: inactive (zero to ten minutes per week), somewhat active (11-149 minutes per week), active (more than 50 minutes per week).

The result showed that the risk of hospitalization doubled in inactive participants than physically active participants. Moreover, the rate of casualties due to COVID-19 was 2.5 times more in inactive participants. This study has again highlighted the importance of physical activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Even a little exercise every day can help reduce the risk of developing severe health issues including COVID-19.
