COVID-19 cases have seen a rise in India. Amidst the high risk of infection and rising death rate due to COVID-19 among pregnant women has made a strong case of their vaccination against COVID-19 on priority.
Led by Yamini Sarwal of Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, a group of doctors prepared a report making a strong case of including pregnant women vaccination drive to reduce the already heavy burden on maternal and under-five mortality.
Amidst the reports and evidence emerging on the safety of COVID-19 vaccination among pregnant women and its benefits for newborns, the report states that including pregnant women in the high priority group to be vaccinated is a must.
Currently, due to ambiguous vaccination policies either pregnant women are not included in vaccination drive or the decision is left to the women about getting vaccinated.
