Heart attack
A team of researchers has developed a sensor that can diagnose a heart attack in less than 30 minutes by targeting three different types of microRNA or miRNA. The device can differentiate between an acute heart or reperfusion – the restoration of blood flow, or reperfusion injury and requires less blood than traditional methods.
The researchers have filed an application for the sensor’s patent and are working with Notre Dame’s IDEA Center to potentially establish a start-up company that would manufacture this device.
