Covid-19
Health officials from the UK identified a patient with both delta and omicron variants at the same time, a hybrid of COVID-19 called ‘Deltacron’. Deltacron was first reported in Cyprus in the month of January.
Initially, it was acclaimed as a laboratory error, the agency is not clear if it was imported or originated in the UK. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is yet unknown about how the new variant will impact the vaccination performance. The officials are not concerned by the variant because case numbers are low.
“It should not pose too much of a threat because the UK has a huge level of immunity against the original Delta and Omicron strains. So, at the moment I’m not overly worried now. If both Delta and Omicron are falling then, in theory, this should struggle to take off,” An infectious disease expert at East Anglia, Professor Paul Hunter stated.
