A 53-year-old Beijing-based veterinarian showed the symptoms of nausea and vomiting, a month after he dissected two dead monkeys in March. In early April, he was found to be positive for Monkey B Virus (BV).
China CDC Weekly English Platform of Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed that the veterinarian was treated by many hospitals but unfortunately, he died on May 27. The vet’s family has been tested negative for BV.
It is believed that there were no previous cases of BV in China and therefore, the vet’s case is considered as the first human case of BV in China.
