In a fraction of seconds individuals can connect to specialists all over the world, this eliminates the need for time-consuming travel, long waiting hours in clinics, and the hassle of scheduling appointments.

Telemedicine is playing a crucial role in improving healthcare facilities in rural areas. Telemedicine supported in solving the transportation limitations in rural areas which was the primary cause for lack of proper healthcare. By providing access to specialist over the world on a single click it eliminates the need for transportation.

Patients suffering from chronic diseases need constant monitoring of their vital signs. Telemedicine enables them to send the readings of blood pressure or glucose levels to the healthcare practitioners and have their treatment plans adjusted appropriately. Telemedicine also saves the emergency rooms as well as the urgent care centres meant for the real emergency cases of patients since it has optimized the health care resources besides saving on overall expenses.

As far as the COVID-19 pandemic is concerned, the AI’s transformative power was realized at that point in time. The second was the Global Epidemic and Mobility (GLEaM). This easy-to-use program allows the researchers to produce case studies, test and justify the hypotheses on the spread of the disease and hence, to understand the perceived epidemic variants. The third was the Transportation Analysis and Simulation (TRANSIMS) system, which assesses regional transportation systems and predicts the spread of COVID-19 based on the travel habits and local interaction of people.

These models can theoretically predict the number of positive cases and the transmission rate. Once these models have produced data, researchers can upload that data into Health Map, online information resource that collects publicly available COVID-19 data, making it readily available to allow for effective tracking of its spread.

WHO’s Approach on Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare

Given the potential for AI to enhance healthcare and tackle global health challenges, it is crucial that AI for health is prioritized. Technology is advancing faster than legal structures, which adds to the urgency. In order to address these issues and promote responsible AI development, WHO is actively advising Member States, creating ethical guidelines, and assembling expert groups. It is also encouraging cooperation among stakeholders in order to reduce risks and protect public health and confidence.

According to WHO, AI will play a significant role in healthcare innovation in the future. The ultimate objective is to assist Member States in bringing AI to the public so that more sustainable and intelligent healthcare is possible.

AI’s Support in Long-Term

AI Healthcare systems will reach that level of precision medicine through connected care and AI-augmented health care in the long term. As it is changing the health care scenario for both diagnostics as well as treatment precision and patient care, applications have ranged from telemedicine to managing pandemics that have validated the capabilities of AI to enhance outcomes and efficiency.
