Delta Variant
A large new study reveals that the people infected with the COVID-19 Delta variant in the UK are twice as likely to be admitted to hospital compares to the people infected with the Alpha variant. The study was conducted by Cambridge University and Public Health England (PHE) and was published in ‘The Lancet’ journal on Friday, being the first of its kind to compare the hospitalization risk of the two distinct variants of the COVID-19 virus and highlighted the need for individuals to be fully vaccinated.
The study published in ‘The Lancet’ journal confirms the previous reports that the COVID-19 Delta variant first identified in India is more infectious than the Alpha variant first identified in Kent, England.
