Doctors are yet again cautioning about the threat of a potential ‘twindemic’, or pressured hospitals amidst converging respiratory diseases like COVID-19 and influenza, pushing calls to receive flu dose early.
Experts had announced a similar warning last summer between ascending coronavirus infections, citing worries overburdened hospital systems by both coronavirus and the influx of flu patients, but the rise never came. From October to mid-February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) documented 165-laboratory confirmed flu-related hospitalizations in the U.S., the least number of flu-related hospitalizations since data collection began in 2005.
However, doctor’s cautionary has resurfaced, with experts citing social gathering and relaxed mitigation measures as the nation approaches the colder seasons.
