Rapid Covid Test
The US government has committed to purchasing an extra 180 million fast COVID-19 tests for $1 billion, in addition to the $2 billion test procurement plan revealed in September, according to a top US health official on Wednesday.
According to Jeff Zients, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, the combined purchases would help triple the United States’ test production by December to roughly 200 million tests each month.
“We’ll continue to pull every lever to boost test manufacturing output, which will have the effect of bringing down test costs and ensuring that tests are broadly available and convenient,” Zients added.
The government will also quadruple the number of pharmacies with whom it collaborates to conduct free COVID test to 20,000 pharmacies, according to Zients.
