UICC launches multiyear campaign – ‘Close the Gap’

February 4 will go down in history for one special cause, as it was acknowledged and founded as ‘World Cancer Day’ at the World Cancer Conference for the new millennium in Paris on February 4, 2000. From 2022 to 2024, World Cancer Day would be observed with its dedicated theme, ‘Close the Care Gap’.

‘Close the Care Gap’ is a global initiative led by The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), which aims to raise Cancer awareness throughout the globe, to inspire unified community and government action. This theme is for initiating a dialogue to boost public exposure and interaction in order to breach multiple barriers that people suffering from cancer face every day.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 10 million lives are lost due to cancer each year, which is estimated to shoot up to over 16.3 million by 2040. This new campaign lends out fresh hope and perspective for the human’s fight against cancer.
