The first cancer center on the Northern Beaches to integrate radiation therapy and medical oncology services under one roof has been inaugurated today. GenesisCare has officially launched its new $35 million cancer center, providing a comprehensive range of essential cancer services conveniently located in a single facility.

With the expansion of services, the relocated center now offers radiation therapy alongside access to clinical trials for eligible patients. This newly constructed four-story facility is pioneering in the Northern Beaches region, being the first to combine radiation therapy and medical oncology services.

Patients are already benefitting from the evidence-based and personalized care provided by GenesisCare’s physicians in the new center. Services such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, haematology, and immunotherapy are being offered. Pathology services, operated by NSW Health Pathology, are also available, with diagnostic imaging set to be offered soon.

The opening ceremony was attended by politicians, medical professionals, local leaders, and community members, marking a significant milestone in cancer care accessibility for Northern Beaches residents.

Federal Member for Mackellar, Dr Sophie Scamps MP, said: “Being able to access a range of services in the one place is really important for patients dealing with cancer treatment. It can be a very stressful experience, so it is great news for the people of the Northern Beaches that we have this new centre offering multiple therapies and services under the one roof.”

GenesisCare’s General Manager of NSW, Richard Briggs said: “We’re pleased to open the first cancer centre on Northern Beaches offering radiation oncology and medical oncology under the one roof with the aim of improving convenience and continuity of care for patients.”

“The successful relocation and expansion of our treatment services in our brand-new Frenchs Forest building will provide capacity to deliver around 14,000 treatments to patients annually.

“GenesisCare is proud to develop this new centre for the community that adds to local cancer services and gives patients more treatment options close to their homes.”

Associate Professor Connie Diakos, Head of Department and Medical Oncologist at GenesisCare’s Frenchs Forest center, expressed, “Our team of medical oncologists and haematologists has been delivering personalized care to the local community for over a decade. We take pride in expanding our services to provide radiation therapy to patients in the same familiar location.”

Diakos noted, “According to Cancer Institute NSW statistics, approximately 1700 individuals were diagnosed with cancer on the Northern Beaches in 2021, with projections indicating a further increase in cancer incidence. GenesisCare aims to cater to the treatment needs of most adult cancer types. Our commitment lies in prioritizing patients and involving them in decision-making processes by equipping them with the necessary information. We welcome any referred patient interested in exploring our services.”
