Following the emergence of Omicron, a new study claims that the efficacy of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine on children drops dramatically in the weeks following immunization.

COVID-19 vaccination data from December 2021 and January 2022 were analyzed in the study, which has yet to be peer-reviewed.

During the recent Omicron variant surge, the vaccination was found to be protective against severe disease in children aged 5 to 11. Still, it quickly lost most of its potential to prevent infection in this age group.

According to the researchers, immunization effectiveness against hospitalization decreased from 85 percent to 73 percent in children aged 12 to 17 and from 100 percent to 48 percent in children aged 5 to 11.
