Systematic Bias
Post COVID-19, the issue of ‘systematic bias’ came to the forefront, as many claimed it exists in the development of medical devices. Taking note of such accusations, UK’s health secretary, on Sunday 21st November 2021 said that an independent review has been launched to investigate the issue and find out the truth.
Sajid Javed, the secretory further said that he will be working with his counterparts from the USA and like-minded countries around the globe to draw the background behind the novel technologies.
He gave an example of oximeters and said that the devices which have been used during the pandemic monitor oxygen levels of patients, but research is showing that they are less accurate with dark-skinned people, showing it as a potential problem.
