New Flow Headset Helps Relieve Symptoms in Several Depression Patients

Depression

A completely drug-free treatment for depression is able to completely alleviate all depressive symptoms in 56% of patients in just 10 weeks, according to the findings of the largest-ever clinical trial of its kind, which included patients in both the US and the UK. Regular use has been deemed safe.

The company that developed the tDCS headset, Flow Neuroscience, said that the results showed it was twice as successful at treating depression as the most popular antidepressants. The transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) method of non-invasive brain stimulation is used by the Flow headset to target the depression-linked left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.

Millions of people with depression in the UK will soon have an alternative to antidepressants thanks to this therapy, which is given through a headset worn by patients. It is safe to use at home and costs £79 each month.

The fact that several NHS partnerships in the UK are already implementing the treatment is perhaps the most significant development for a medical breakthrough of this magnitude. Patients won’t have to wait years to obtain the medication. It is currently anticipated that the NHS will use it more widely after the trial.

It is offered on the Flow website and in many well-known pharmacies in the UK and has already acquired regulatory approval in Europe and the UK. It was given FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in the United States in July 2022, proving its significant advantages over already approved or certified alternatives.

Millions of pounds were spent on the double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical experiment, which revealed that 56% of patients using Flow Neuroscience’s tDCS headgear experienced complete relief from all depression symptoms after 10 weeks.
