During the session conducted between 29th November and 1st December 2021, World Health Assembly (WHA) announced its historic decision to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, it will form a global treaty. The treaty’s drafting and negotiation will be done by an intergovernmental negotiating body (INB). The decision was taken in a special assembly, only the second one since the inception of WHO in 1948.

Accordingly, INB will first meet to agree upon a timeline and ways of working on 1st March 2022, and then to review its working draft will meet again on 1st August 2022. It is supposed to conduct public hearings and by 2023 it is expected to deliver its first progress report to the 76th World Health Assembly and expected to submit the outcome of the report for consideration by 2024 in the next W.H.Assembly.
