Drug used to treat diabetes
A study conducted by researchers at the Penn State College of Medicine in the US found that a drug used to treat obesity and Type 2 diabetes is linked to reduced risk of hospitalization, respiratory complications, and death in patients of COVID-19 with a diabetic condition.
The study conducted suggests that the drug is effective in avoiding severe COVID-19 infection if taken six months prior to contraction.
Researchers conducted the study by analyzing electronic medical records of nearly 30,000 patients with type 2 diabetes who had a positive test report for COVID-19 between January and September 2020.
