B.1.640.2, That’s The Old-New COVID-19 Variant found in France

covid

Just as the world is still grappling with COVID-19’s earlier variant Omicron, the new year brought a new variant named B.1.640.2.

Though the variant was detected two months prior, the misinformation about it began spreading from Tuesday 04 January 2022, giving people one more reason to start the new year with a new worry.

IHU Méditerranée, Marseille’s Infection centre’s experts team detected the new variant in 12 patients from Forcalquier, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (southern French region) tested COVID-19 positive with an atypical combination. And actually, the variant B.1.640.2 was discovered in early November 2021, much before Omicron, which alarmed the authorities on late November i.e., 24 Nov 2021.
