COVID-19 Infection
A new study suggests that those who have already been infected with COVID-19 and recovered, may have developed natural antibodies that can last for up to 20 months.
The experts also cautioned people that the new findings do not necessarily mean that one is safe from getting reinfection. They also stressed the importance of being vaccinated to prevent the infection.
“The new study reveals to us that people have natural antibodies that hang around COVID-19, but it does not confirm anything about immunity, as we do not have information about what level of natural antibodies is required for protection against infection,” said Dr. Otto Yang, an immunologist at the University of California, Los Angeles.
“Almost everyone with a recorded COVID-19 infection has antibodies, and these antibodies seem to last for quite a long time,” stated the author of the study, Dr. Dorry Segev, a transplant surgeon at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Dr. Segev’s study was published online on February 3rd in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
