Sydney Lockdown

Australia’s biggest city, Sydney, celebrates as it emerges out of a lockdown that lasted for almost four months.

Locals waited in long queues for pubs and shops that opened at midnight on Monday. People also enjoyed long-awaited reunions with their friends and relatives.

Household visits and travel was banned in the city beyond a 5 km range. The city ended the lockdown after New South Wales state reached its 70% double-dose vaccination target for people over 16 years old.

Vaccinated people are now allowed to visit most public places as restrictions ease for them.
