First Case of Polio Since
Jerusalem, A 4-year-old child in Jerusalem, has been diagnosed with polio, according to the Israeli Ministry of Health.
According to the Xinhua news agency, quoting Israeli media, this is Israel’s first case since 1989.
The youngster had not been immunized as part of Israel’s standard immunization program, according to the ministry. In this case, the source of the disease is a virus strain that has mutated and can cause disease in persons who have not been vaccinated, the statement said.
The ministry’s regional health office in Jerusalem has launched an epidemiological inquiry, and people who were close to the youngster will be contacted for specific guidance.
