The cancer registry under the national cancer registry programme shows that out of 6852 new patients registered in 2020, 1856 were suffering from mouth and throat cancer.The percentage of head and neck cancer ranges from 30% to 45% if all types of cancers are considered collectively. Head and neck cancer can be reduced gradually.
“We can prevent 80% of the head and neck cancer cases by simply throwing out tobacco consumption from our social system. The common cause of 80% of head and neck cancer is tobacco consumption in the form of smoking or chewing,” said Dr Hemant Malhotra, Director of Cancer Centre at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College.
