COVID-19 cases in the U.S.

According to the recent report that came last week by Reuters analysis of state and county data, the number of new COVID-19 cases recorded was in nearly a year. The infection rate has dropped 26% in the last seven days.

The death rate due to COVID-19 also decreased by 5% with 3,969 deaths recorded in a week which has been the lowest death rate in the country due to COVID-19 since March 2020.

One of the major reasons for falling COVID-19 cases in the country is the fast-moving vaccination drive. As per the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 39% of the US population has been fully vaccinated while 49% has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Nationally, the average number of COVID-19 patients needed to be hospitalized fell 14% which has been lower for the fifth week since April 2020.
